Abstract

In the second quarter of 2009, shipment volume of the Taiwanese desktop PC industry fluctuated in April, May, and June. The inventory replenishment in March continued into April but in May, some brands began scaling down their inventory purchases as their inventory levels were higher than expected. In anticipation of the advent of the peak season, brands have begun making advance purchases in June, which is expected to help Taiwanese contract makers to reduce shipment declines in the second quarter of 2009. Brand-name vendors such as HP and Acer, which have relatively high share of contract orders outsourced to Taiwanese makers, have taken an aggressive stance toward shipment, benefiting the industry's shipment volume in the second quarter of 2009.
